Watching this live performance of it made me recognize how much of what I love is the THE PERCUSSION. And watching two people who've been friends and playing together for so long, working together on a stage is potent. I hope they come to Seattle soon.

I love drummers, and love the layers of noisy heart-wrenching magic this duo creates. I like the faster tempo of the live version, which is more bitterly resentful-sounding, but disguises some of the emo drama of the studio version (not that I want that disguised, but it's an interesting effect).

Looking forward to beating myself up with all of the rest of their music.

Perfect amounts of fog with a cold ghostly moon rising in the grainy dark grey five o'clock sky. Heading to my boyfriend and his wife's isolated RV home to pick him up and take him to our house. Later to be joined by her for hours upon hours of hazy-yet-intense flame-lit fucking.

Most of this is stuff I heard on KEXP while I was alone in the car driving along with the moon and thin swaths of fog, but a few songs were actually playing during the "action". Not "Western" music . . . but it all kind of is:

The title and surf sound somehow made the fog and cold and moon and almost-winter even more hauntingly evocative, speaking of skin I was heading towards, warmed by propane-fueled flames at night instead of sun. The music conjures up old eroded beaches . . . which is almost like Washington in December when you add a steel guitar.

The title track of Morphine's "Like Swimming":

Along with "Like Swimming", "Hanging on a Curtain" and "Swing it Low" make up my fave three to fuck (myself or others) to on that album, and rank really high in my music collection in general.

Perhaps dorkier to some than sexy, but I *LOVE* Chris Isaak's first album, especially Dancin', Funeral in the Rain, Unhappiness, and Gone Ridin':

I did drive around a lot listening to that. On cassette.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of those albums.
Hope you enjoy listening to some of the music I have fun hearing. And someday that I'll have more time to play with the "radio" thing!

A note about Walk on the Wild Side: I first heard it (and my fave, Coney Island Baby) on The Best of Lou Reed - I didn't really know anything about Transformer when I bought that tape, I just wanted to hear where Cowboy Junkies got Sweet Jane. So it was news to me to watch this classic albums documentary and find out:

the true hero of Walk on the Wild Side was the bassist who needed to make twice as much money so suggested laying down TWO bass tracks

everything I love about Satellite of Love is actually David Bowie (FYI: my fave Bowie song is Sound and Vision)

1. The Beautiful Ones - Prince (from Purple Rain)
4. I Would Die 4 U - Prince (from Purple Rain)
5. The Beautiful Ones - Fol Chen (from Spin Presents "Purplish Rain")
6. Take Me With U - Prince (from Purple Rain)
7. Darling Nikki - Prince and the Revolution (from Purple Rain)
8. When Doves Cry - Prince (from Purple Rain)
9. (When Doves Cry AGAIN! Because it brings back dirty memories/ confused longings)

It's really saaaaad that you can't buy the covers off of Spin's "Purplish Rain". I am particularly fond of Lavender Diamond's version of Purple Rain (and when I was looking for it on Amazon I discovered Etta James covered that song too), and glad I was reminded of Fol Chen via the Spin album:

Purple Rain will always be one of my favorite albums; aside from the big classic hits on it, the sounds of I "Would Die 4 U" and "Take Me With U" are uniquely shiver-making. Nothing sounds like them or makes me feel like those songs do: because they're so 80's Prince and because of the age I was when they came out.
That means I now have less storage space for songs and fewer people can listen at one time.

We can deal with that for the summer, but by fall my goal is to upgrade to an even better broadcasting package than I had before with twice the storage space AND transition the name/channel to TrixieRadio (instead of the old whipsofopinion/human condition thing). It costs almost $500 for a year (by buying a year it's $240 less than paying monthly) so I'm asking for your help in raising that money since I can't really justify spending the dough otherwise:

Viewing in a feedreader & can't see the widget? CLICK HERE!

In the meantime I'm doubling the sound quality of my broadcast. It may be a bad time to do it since I already have HALF the storage space I did before for songs (and this will slice that in half again, so I'm left with 25% of the space) but I'll try to spend more time deleting and uploading tracks so there's a better rotation or, at least, as good as there was before (which wasn't very good, I know, but I've been fighting a losing battle with such limited space, having to spend hours deleting and uploading tracks to offer anything fresh and different on a regular basis which, again, I can't justify since it takes so much computer time that I *should* be spending on work that actually makes money).

Anyway, I'll also add a few links to the sidebar here for people who want to donate in other ways by helping me buy new music on Amazon (which has become my .mp3 downloader of choice).

Thanks for all of the awesome feedback and support; it makes me happy knowing people are out there listening to music I love and want to share. Ultimately my goal is to get a professional broadcasting package from Live365 so people can listen for free with NO ADS from them, but that's a little more than I can justify spending until business is better. It's much more cost effective (I'd be able to add tons of storage space without upgrading the whole package, for example) but I wouldn't have time to utilize and promote it anyway AND I don't want to upgrade it unless I have the budget to KEEP it. Someday I will bring you sexy guest dj's and live broadcasts ad-free, though!

PS - in the process of clearing out old tracks that exceed my storage space AND uploading new tracks at a higher bitrate, there MIGHT be some dead air. But at the end of it? New music! Thanks for your patience.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-59221590886564394512009-06-02T14:37:00.001-07:002009-06-02T14:50:05.208-07:00New Blog AddressI'm making some changes, including moving the blog to this new home here on blogspot.

Check back soon for more news on the changes!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-29817173494368474112008-04-28T14:21:00.000-07:002008-04-28T14:23:23.143-07:00Prince Covering Radiohead at CoachellaWeep now to "Creep":

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-55665605992116975342008-03-27T19:45:00.001-07:002008-03-27T20:17:36.960-07:00Price Hike for BroadcastersIt's getting very hard to justify the expense of broadcasting my station -- they just hiked the price by $40 a quarter.

Maybe this will be the push I need to invest more time in it, though. With more effort I could call it an advertising expense by using it to get more exposure to our websites. Actually, I *do* call it an advertising expense already, but it's not really paying off (my fault, totally, for not putting the work into it). It's also like a plug-in for my members; I imagine that's where most of my listeners come from (but I can't tell since the personal broadcaster stats aren't very detailed/don't show referrers); I don't know any other porn sites like mine featuring a radio station broadcast by the girl herself so I think it's a unique bonus. It doesn't have to be a great station to be worthwhile just for sharing part of my music library and tastes with my members who like knowing more about me.

Today I finally bought the domain, TrixieRadio.com. If I can step up my podcasting and integrate that into my station plus get more playlists cooking, I should easily earn back the money for the broadcasting account I have now (it would take about eight joins per quarter to pay for the station; about three joins per month).

Ideally I'd be able to afford a pro broadcasting account so I could customize the players and stream it directly from my site (hence the leap of faith in purchasing TrixieRadio.com even though I don't have time to do anything with it right now). I think the pro accounts start at around $99 a month which isn't too expensive for what it is; I just don't have the money or time to put into it right now. I guess I should make a plan for that which would involve:

STAGE I:

*ripping and buying more music to expand my .mp3 library, uploading all of that, creating more playlists for variety, spending more time listening to music and researching new stuff

*recording station identifiers and advertisements letting people know who I am . . . and that I have porn sites where people can see me naked and live on cam

*assessing impact of those two things on number of listeners and site signups resulting directly from radio exposure

STAGE II:

*recording podcasts that I can integrate/play on the station

*assessing the effect of "talk" on listener hours and signups

STAGE III:

*If all of that boosts listening hours and signups to be worth a) the time I put into it and b) the cost of upgrading to a pro broadcasting account, developing TrixieRadio.com with a custom player, guests, more music, schedule, live broadcasts, call-in shows, chat, etc.

It can't be something that would take away from my website, so it would have to augment what I already do online; that should naturally occur because my site members would enjoy it, and the free listeners would probably want to join so they could enjoy watching me on cam while I'm broadcasting, looking at naked pics of me, blah blah blah. If it were a success, I should be able to get other people to take over a lot of the work in exchange for advertising/exposure.

Just thinking out loud here . . .Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-73321705645966791422007-07-28T12:49:00.001-07:002007-07-28T13:06:21.411-07:00Mainstream MusicLive365, where I host my radio station, provides listeners the opportunity to rate each track I broadcast between one and five stars. It's always funny to see the ratings, because the mainstream type of music that may have at one time been top-of-the-pop-charts almost always gets low rates while the more unfamiliar (to the general public) tracks get rated higher.

If I took the cue from my ratings, I'd get rid of all of the familiar and embraced-by-pop-culture tracks. But I just CAN'T. I've always resented that divide between "cool" music and "popular" music and have yearned for a station that plays anything and everything, so that's what my station is about. I mean, how can Beastie Boys' "She's Crafty" rank at half a star? There's no way I'm ditching that from the current playlist since it's one of my favorite songs of all time. How can ZZTop's "Cheap Sunglasses" receive only two stars? OH MY GOD!!! It's craziness!! That is a fucking five star song!!

At least my listeners have rated Prince's "The Beautiful Ones" at five stars. I'm shocked to report, however, that "I Would Die 4 U" is swinging from only HALF a star. Oh my GOD!!! It's MADNESS!! "I Would Die 4 U" and "Take Me With U" are, like, my favorite 80's songs performed in a major key!! It's so disheartening.

Fortunately everyone seems quite fond of her dirty holiness, Lucinda Williams. Peaches, Tin Hat Trio, and (oddly) Herb Alpert are also doing well in the ratings. The same cannot be said, however, for Bad Company, Buddy Holly and T. Rex.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-76343465991650847242007-07-20T23:44:00.000-07:002007-07-20T23:48:47.790-07:00Lonesome MusicI just added the blog "Lonesome Music" to my sidebar. Maybe they figure surfers will like that little mystery piece so much they will buy every single album to FIND that little chunk of music that hooked them.

But probably it's just a thoughtless design oversight.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-1163984849982822782006-11-19T17:03:00.000-08:002006-11-19T17:07:29.993-08:00Crushing: Sean LennonI think I have a crush on Sean Lennon after seeing/watching/hearing him on one of those stupid entertainment shows. I've never been immersed in any aspect of Beatlemania so I'm almost entirely ignorant of what Sean and Julian have been up to, but Sean radiates an awkward confidence and bumblingly brilliant sense of humour that makes him seem defiantly human. Poorly groomed charisma -- it knocks me out, like a deflated, introverted Jack Black. SEXY.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-1160969302419955772006-10-15T20:20:00.000-07:002006-10-15T20:28:22.433-07:00New PlaylistI just uploaded some new songs to my station . . . some swingy stuff, old favorites, and perhaps sadly, very little newly released material except for Ray LaMontagne's "Three More Days" which is so cool it's bound to get overplayed all too soon, so I'm enjoying it while I can.

There's also a new T-Bone Burnett song, "Zombieland", which seems appropriate for the time and season, some sexy trip-hoppy Cat Power vocals, my favorite Talking Heads song, and a sappy 80's slow-dance song that I *love* (hint: I never realized Jeff Healey was blind the whole time that particular song was popular). Oh, and I had to throw in some Freddy Fender: RIP.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-1160809269513125812006-10-13T23:57:00.000-07:002006-10-14T00:01:09.523-07:00Tonight's Orgasm SoundtrackI just had a big whopper of an orgasm listening to Ryan Adams' "Why Do They Leave" and before that, during a live camshow on my site, I caught one on the tail end of Hendrix doing "Red House Blues" and going into The Raconteurs' "Blue Veins".

So there.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-1159331251767695462006-09-26T21:25:00.000-07:002006-09-26T21:27:31.783-07:00SwingingIt's been over a month since I updated my playlist, but I do have a lot of tunes in the queue, just not the time to fiddle with it.

One cool thing: Tucker and I started swing dance lessons (east coast swing) so there are a couple of bands I've been introduced to. Top of the list is Alien Fashion Show.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32543039.post-1155619950417127302006-08-14T22:27:00.000-07:002006-08-14T22:32:30.426-07:00New Songs & PlaylistI just uploaded a bunch of "new" songs (at least, songs that haven't been played on THC before) and a new playlist (that has old faves and some of the new ones).

Some of the new-to-me tunes are by Ryan Scott, Frank Black, Jeffrey Foucault, Death Cab for Cutie, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Honestly, I'm most fond of the old faves. The Death Cab song is already being overplayed on the "real" radio and maybe I'm just getting old and like hearing familiar stuff. I do think the Ryan Scott & Jeffrey Foucault numbers will become faves of mine . . . eventually.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
